Strike Engine

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Strike Engine?

Strike Engine is a card game rules system created for the Creative Commons. It's core rules and card back are under CC BY 4.0. This means that anyone can make and sell cards derivative of those materials. As long as you're following copyright law, you can make & sell whatever you want.

How can I keep the game balanced?

The best way to keep the game balanced is to refer to the design document when you design your cards, and then playtest them until you come into a solid conclusion.

If anyone can make cards, does this mean that anyone can make broken/overpowered cards?

Yes, this is possible. It's also ill-advised however, because they encourage unfair gameplay and greatly reduce the amount of fun for other players with average-powered decks.

How about tournaments?

The tournament organizer sets the rules. They determine whichs cards are allowed and which cards are not. This means they have the right to say that only products by certain publishers are legal.

Can someone make their own updated version of Strike Engine?

Yes, and it will happen. You own the copyright your derivatives. So if you want to branch off the core game and make it into your own closed-off system, go right ahead!
